11/28 - 7AM Update - 4 units remain of the 15 unit run - Huge thanks to all who have ordered!
Its with great excitement that I introduce you to a very special hilt from the mind of Nevin at Space Junk Sabers. This Y-Wing hilt was a commission completed for a client and it captivated many of us in the community. I would like to once again thank the original client for being willing to ship the hilt to me, so I could model this amazing design! Please read the below information in its entirety to understand the pre-order process.
As with all TSM produced hilts, we want to have the parts designed, machined and inbound before we launch and accept any form of payment what so ever. This has always been my prerogative, as I want my clients to feel comfortable knowing that if they choose to spend their hard earned income with us, they WILL receive what they ordered. This hilt is no different. The parts are in hand, cleaned and inspected and ready to receive surface treatment in the form of an acid dip to provide a smooth matte surface that is ready to receive Nevins amazing paint and weathering treatment.
More hours that I can easy count have gone into this very small hilt run, and while I know that its more expensive than other TSM produced runs, its for good reason. Small batches of parts will always cost more than larger bulk orders. We added more details, like grooves, rings, drilling and taping holes for exact screw placement, etc. More operations needed to take place, and that too adds touch time, and thus cost. Custom parts like the greeblies had to be sourced, designed, made, or printed in metal, to get as close to the original design as possible - we would have it no other way, and last but certainly not least, Nevin will be applying his iconic hand finishing to each of the 15 hilts for this run. Each hilt will also include the shown TSM "Rotary" 3 way switch PCB and machined aluminum lever, finished by Nevin.
What we have now is a beautifully machined, robust hilt that is extremely close to the original design, with a few updates to certain areas. The pommel was adjusted to a closer resemblance to a part of the ship and the blade holders were reduced down to a 7/8" size which balances the hilt extremely well, reducing the need for a heavier weight pommel, which in turn gave us more glorious space for the chassis!
The finished product photos shown are the original hilt upon its completion by Nevin - The run hilts will be as close as possible but expect each hilt to have slight variations of color, weathering, etc. as these will be hand finished by Nevin
